A few of my favorite releases from 2007

I regularly post my playlists to the folkdj listserv and every year around this time many folks post their favorite releases of the previous year. Here's the message I just posted regarding some of my favorites. Not a definitive "best of" list, but certainly some fabulous music released by talented folks that I hadn't seen mentioned previously. Happy belated New Year everyone! I’ve appreciated seeing many of other’s favorite releases of the last year and have discovered some great new artists that way. So, I thought I’d share a few of my favorites from last year that I haven’t seen mentioned yet. The usual disclaimer pertains, I have no connection with any of these artists. Here they are in no particular order. Jory Nash – Folk Jazz Blues & Soul Jeff Talmadge – True Neal & Leandra – Dancing With a Ghost Tracy Grammer – Book of Sparrows Rosie Thomas – These Friends of Mine Rosemary Phelan – Avalanche Lily Eddi Reader – Peacetime Eileen Laverty – Ground Beneath My Feet Karen Mal – The Space Between Buddy Mondlock – The Edge of the World Charlotte Kendrick – North of New York These came out in 2006, but I received them during the past year and they really deserve a mention. Gray Sky Girls – Gray Sky Girls Wil Maring – The Calling Chuck Pyle – True Unity And even though I’ve seen them mentioned already, I had to mention these again! Anais Mitchell – The Brightness Appleseed Recordings – Sowing the Seeds, the 10th Anniversary Wilderness Plots – Tim Grimm, Krista Detor, Carrie Newcomer, Michael White, Tom Roznowski OK, so a few more than a few, but all are great releases by amazingly talented artists that deserve and will reward a good listen. Again, these are just some of my favorites I haven’t seen mentioned, not a definitive list of all the wonderful music of the last year by any means. Thanks to everyone who continues to create and distribute such fantastic music!
