Erica's songwriting has deep roots with nature and the earth we live on and has long been one of my absolute favorites. She'll be dropping by the station before her show Saturday evening at the Haybarn Theater at Goddard College in Plainfield. Local favorites, Susannah Blachly and Lewis Franco will open the evening. Rod Picott and Amanda Shires live on Acoustic Harmony! - April 11, 2008

Very exciting news indeed! The fabulous Rod Picott will be appearing live on Acoustic Harmony on April 19th. Rod cowrote the song, "Broke down" with Slaid Cleaves and has become one of my favorites. Rod will be accompanied by the amazing Amada Shires, so it should be fantastic. Tune in at 5pm for Rod and Amanda on WGDR, Community Radio for Central Vermont, listen live in the local area at 91.1 FM or online at:

Rosemary Phelan - April 8, 2008

Very excited about the chance to record an interview with Rosemary Phelan. Rosemary will be stopping by on April 12th to record a session for Acoustic Harmony Presents which we'll get on the air sometime in the next few weeks. Rosemary's new release, "Avalanche Lily" is a wonderful collection, should be a lot of fun!

Recent live guests - April 6, 2008

Had to post a note about the recent guests that have been kind enough to appear on Acoustic Harmony.

Central Vermont singer songwriter Diana Winn and her daughter Jessamine Levine came by on March 22nd to talk about Diana's new release. We featured several cuts off of "Turning Back Beautiful" which features many of Vermont's fabulous women vocalists covering some of Diana's great songs. Then Jessamine treated us to a couple of her own songs live. What a treat!

Then on April 5th, the great folk duo, "Folk By Association" came by for an appearance before their show later that evening at The Skinny Pancake. Karen Krajacic and Jill Cowen are Folk By Association and they make beautiful music together, great acoustic interplay and the harmonies... Wow! Their voices blend with such smoothness, just fabulous!

Check these great artists out!

Folk By Association live on Acoustic Harmony! - April 1, 2008

Just a quick note to let you know that Saturday, April 5th, I’ll be joined in the studio for an interview and live performance by the great folk duo, Folk By Association. Karen Krajacic and Jill Cowen are the two amazing musicians that comprise Folk By Association. Karen and Jill cite influences like The Indigo Girls, Simon & Garfunkel and The Story, so you can just imagine how these two approach music. Their vocal harmonies and acoustical interplay (guitar and mandolin) are incredible. They’re coming in at 5 pm before their show later at The Skinny Pancake. So, tune in and check them out, you’ll love them, guaranteed!

That’s Folk By Association, this Saturday, April 5th at 5 pm. Listen live in central Vermont on WGDR at 91.1 FM or online at:

Lucy Kaplansky and Richard Shindell! - March 16, 2008

I just had to put a note in here about the best live show I've seen in a long time.

I just saw Lucy Kaplansky and Richard Shindell, together at the wonderful Barre Opera House! What a fabulous show. Lucy has one of my absolute favorite voices and hearing her sing harmony with Richard live was unbelievable! If these either of these two great singer songwriters are ever in your area, do yourself a real favor and go see them, you won't be dissapointed!

Patrick Fitzsommons update - February 22, 2008

I just received this email that Patrick has sent out to his list. He's been a great supporter of Acoustic Harmony and WGDR. Please join me in wishing all the best to Patrick...

"Hi All,

I am going to have to take some time off from playing gigs. I have been diagnosed with cancer (Mantle Cell Lymphoma) and will need to undergo treatments for about 6 months or so. I will be remaining in Vermont for my treatment.

Unfortunately, the progress on the new CD will be slowed down a bit, but I do hope to continue working on it sporadically throughout my treatment. So all you preorder customers hang in there - its coming. Thank you for your patience and support.

For anyone wanting to drop me a note, you can visit the Contact Page on my website for both my email address and physical address.

OK, so I'll be back out playing late summer or early fall. See you then."

p.s. speaking of my new CD, its still not too late to preorder. Every order helps! You can visit the Store Page on my website to place an order.

A few of my favorite releases from 2007 - January 19, 2008

I regularly post my playlists to the folkdj listserv and every year around this time many folks post their favorite releases of the previous year. Here's the message I just posted regarding some of my favorites. Not a definitive "best of" list, but certainly some fabulous music released by talented folks that I hadn't seen mentioned previously.

Happy belated New Year everyone!

I’ve appreciated seeing many of other’s favorite releases
of the last year and have discovered some great new artists that way. So, I thought I’d share a few of my
favorites from last year that I haven’t seen mentioned yet. The usual disclaimer pertains, I have no connection with any of these artists.

Here they are in no particular order.

Jory Nash – Folk Jazz Blues & Soul
Jeff Talmadge – True
Neal & Leandra – Dancing With a Ghost
Tracy Grammer – Book of Sparrows
Rosie Thomas – These Friends of Mine
Rosemary Phelan – Avalanche Lily
Eddi Reader – Peacetime
Eileen Laverty – Ground Beneath My Feet
Karen Mal – The Space Between
Buddy Mondlock – The Edge of the World
Charlotte Kendrick – North of New York

These came out in 2006, but I received them during the
past year and they really deserve a mention.

Gray Sky Girls – Gray Sky Girls
Wil Maring – The Calling
Chuck Pyle – True Unity

And even though I’ve seen them mentioned already, I had to mention these again!

Anais Mitchell – The Brightness
Appleseed Recordings – Sowing the Seeds, the 10th Anniversary
Wilderness Plots – Tim Grimm, Krista Detor,
Carrie Newcomer, Michael White, Tom Roznowski

OK, so a few more than a few, but all are great releases
by amazingly talented artists that deserve and will reward
a good listen.

Again, these are just some of my favorites I haven’t seen
mentioned, not a definitive list of all the wonderful music
of the last year by any means.

Thanks to everyone who continues to create and distribute such fantastic music!

White Light Fund Offers Scholarships for Vermont Musicians - September 9, 2007

Two $500 scholarships to the Northeast Regional Folk Alliance are available for Vermont singer/songwriters. The “Rachel Bissex White Light Fund” is offering this opportunity and is intended for artists striving to develop careers as performers and recording artists.

In February 2005, beloved Vermont singer/songwriter Rachel Bissex died of breast cancer. She is remembered for her many talents, not the least of which was her dedication to mentoring and supporting up-and-coming talent. The White Light Fund, a title honoring her final recording, honors Rachel’s work in this regard. The fund, created by Karl Bissex, Mary Trerice and Lynne Goodson, is supported through the efforts of “Occasional Concerts” -- a series of performances featuring national musicians.

NERFA is scheduled for early November. For the inspired artist, the Folk Alliance offers a wealth of information and opportunity. The networking contacts, workshops, performance showcases, and even the jam sessions contribute to creative and professional growth.

To receive a White Light Fund scholarship application, email or call 802.244.5895. The deadline for submittal is October 1st. Applicants must be Vermont residents and singer/songwriters with a vision for an artistic career.

What an incredibly busy few weeks it's been! Four interviews scheduled in the first 6 weeks of this new year! I wanted to take a minute to send a huge thanks out to my guests who recorded sessions for Acoustic Harmony Presents so far in 2007 and encourage you to check out their music, all are incredible muscians, singers and songwriters.
